Sorry for not posting lately. Things have been a blur since I’ve come back from NY and yes guys, this is the start of my 5th semester here at the University of the Philippines: Los Banos.
I’ve been in class for just over 2 weeks now and so far it’s been going well. Most of the teachers I have this semester are interesting people. I’m really excited for my surgery and clinician rotations this year. This time around, I’m a junior clinician, which means I’ll have duties doing different rotations in different places around Manila and Laguna. This coming week, we’ll be finishing up a 2-part orientation at the University of the Philippines: Diliman, which is about 2 hours away from Los Banos. That means we’ll have to leave very early in the morning whenever we have duty. When me and my classmates visited the clinic last week, it was cute. It wasn’t as big as I thought it would be, but then again, there were many patients there waiting to be seen. It’s more of a modern hospital I think than the one in Los Banos (which we call Tabon), in that there were sleeping quarters, teaching classrooms, exam rooms and such there in the facility. There seem to be a lot of people there that were students learning for the board exam so that was nice to see.
Also, this semester we’re starting Surgery II and instead of just having 2 surgeries this year, we’ll start to be doing them every week. It’ll be fun, but obtaining the right animals and materials and preparing the protocols for each one will be tiring. They say that the 3rd year is “physically tiring” because you’ll have to do a lot of running around. And already I’m starting to feel that.
I will post more later about my experiences, but I have to read up for my VMED 151 class which is essentially my first medicine course here at the college. Wish me luck this sem!
See ya guys on the flip side!
I needed to take a break from studying. I have a really huge Parasitology final tomorrow and I’ve been studying for hours. I really need to stop and take a short break, because my head is going crazy with all these freakin’ parasite life cycles and names. And what I’m afraid of is actually forgetting them tomorrow. Aish, I really hope they stick. :P
Anyway, today I found out that I passed my Surgery I class. All in all I placed 6th in the entire surgery class, so that’s fine by me. I got an 18/19 on the laboratory part of the final which I was happy about and did really well the lecture part as well. So that’s a load off my back.
I took my Microbiology final today. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping I did well enough on it to pass the class. Finals always freak me out because you never know what they’re going to throw at you. I won’t say anything until I get the results back, but yeah… it’s pretty nerve-wracking.
Anyway, just wanted to get that out there. I’m going to go back to studying. Wish me luck guys. I think I’ll need it.
*crosses fingers*
… okay, so not literally dying, but I think you get what I’m saying. It’s getting pretty ridiculous. I’ve come over the hump today with the amount of exams per day, but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a bumpy ride.
So I had three exams today. Pretty much back to back. So three exams, yeah? Surgery first, Equine Production second and Parasitology Lab Final last.
So I spent a lot of last night trying to cope with all the material I had to do for today. But I was up till 3am that morning working on 2 presentations with my group mates that were to be presented on Tuesday. The presentations I did on Tuesday went well, but I didn’t get out of class until 6pm. By the time I got home, had dinner and was ready to start studying it was 7pm. I was already starting to crash at that point, and so I went over my Surgery notes once, and then crashed at around 9:30pm. I slept until 7:30am today. I really needed to recover. And so starts the mad dash to cover the other two exams that I hadn’t studied yet which occurred this morning. There was a ton of material and I ended up only covering all of my surgery class but didn’t have that much time to cover the Parasitology laboratory material.
So I ended up taking the Surgery and Equine Production exams today which didn’t turn out to be much of a problem. Then when I came to the Parasitology lab exam that’s when things got hectic. As soon as I entered the room I started to blank. For some of the gross specimens I knew I had seen them before, but I had a hard time recalling their names, which family and/or genus they were under, etc. We only had about a minute to think about each thing and I was already drained from lack of sleep and trying to cram all the other stuff in my head. I knew I got some answers correct, but it was still ridiculous. I hope that it went well. But it probably didn’t… :P
Anyway, I have about 71 pages of Microbiology to go over tonight, which of course I haven’t had time to really start on. And yes, my test is tomorrow. Which is great. Really, it is. *sarcasm* :rotfl:
I’ve got two exams on Friday which are for Pathology lab and lecture. I’ve also got two exams this Saturday for Pharmacology lecture and laboratory. I’ve still gotta label my pictures with notes today. Where will I find the time?
Alright, I gotta finish up dinner now and get started. But yeah, wish me luck, ok? Hehe… and thanks to my new readers who have sent me support. That means a lot to me that you guys are rooting for me.
See ya on the Flip side! :bye:
